Universal Media Server, or UMS, is a DLNA compliant UPnP media server based on the PSP Media Server from shagrath. It's actually a direct port of the original "Subjunk Build" of PMS. UMS was initially created by Subjunk, an official independent developer of PSP Media Server, to make sure compatibility and stability of the application. There are several versions of UMS available for Windows. The free version has many limitations such as no support for third party media players and limited capacity to handle large files. The paid version on the other hand allows unlimited access to any media player that supports the DLNA specification including Sony PSP, Xbox Live, Miro and PC Eye.
To run UMS on Windows, you need a reliable operating system. Windows Vista and above are the most reliable and widely used versions of Windows in the market today. To be able to run UMS on Windows, you need to have a high-quality computer with an adequate amount of RAM. If your computer has a good processor, a working graphics card and a sound card, it's all you need to be able to run UMS smoothly.
The installation process of UMS can be a little difficult but it's not very complicated and once installed, it runs like magic on Windows. All you need to do is to load UMS in your system and wait for the installation to finish. The next time you open your Windows task manager, you will see UMS running automatically.
